Rubber products require precise specification matching:

- Hardness: Measured in Shore A (40-90)
- Temperature range: -30°C to +300°C depending on compound
- Chemical resistance: Acids, alkalis, oils, solvents
- Mechanical properties: Tensile strength, elongation, compression set
A buyer needing a chemical-resistant hose for sulfuric acid transfer must specify material compatibility, pressure rating, temperature range, flange type, and end fittings. One wrong parameter means product failure within weeks.
No Standardized Cataloging
Unlike steel or plastics, rubber products lack universal grade designations. A "Nitrile Rubber" product from Manufacturer A may have different properties than from Manufacturer B. Buyers must rely on:
- Physical samples (slow)
- Technical datasheets (often incomplete)
- Trust built over years (barrier to new suppliers)
